Loot Goblins is a content expansion module designed to inject high-velocity risk/reward mechanics into the standard Minecraft survival loop. The project introduces a new, elusive entity—the Loot Goblin—which serves as a dynamic “loot piñata.” The goal was to gamify exploration and combat by adding a rare, non-hostile mob that incentivizes immediate player engagement through “chase” mechanics and high-value rewards.
Designed a custom entity distinct from vanilla mobs, utilizing a “skittish” AI behavior pattern. Unlike hostile mobs that aggro the player, the Loot Goblin prioritizes evasion, creating a spontaneous chase sequence.
Visual Design: Moved away from the grotesque style of RPG counterparts (e.g., Diablo) in favor of a “cute” aesthetic to align with Minecraft’s charming visual language while maintaining distinct readability.
Implemented a custom loot table that rewards players with high-value items upon successfully defeating the goblin.
